Halal Certification

Halal certification verifies that goods — most commonly food, beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals — and the processes that produce them meet Islamic dietary and handling requirements. In Malaysia, halal certification is issued by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and is a well-established, internationally respected mark.

For procurement, halal status can be a mandatory requirement for certain buyers and end markets, so it forms part of supplier qualification and product selection. Buyers typically check that a supplier's certification is current and covers the specific products being purchased, and keep evidence on file for compliance and audit.
