ISO 9001

Also known as: ISO 9001 certification, Quality management system

ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems that shows an organisation has consistent processes for delivering products and services.

Published by the International Organization for Standardization, ISO 9001 sets requirements for how an organisation documents, controls and continually improves its processes. Certification, awarded after an independent audit, signals that a supplier manages quality systematically rather than relying on individual effort.

In supplier qualification, ISO 9001 is a widely recognised indicator of process maturity and is often requested or scored during evaluation. It is not a guarantee of product quality on its own, so buyers usually combine it with references, samples and performance monitoring when assessing a supplier.
