Purchasing & Procure-to-Pay

Pick and Pack

Pick and pack is the warehouse process of selecting ordered items from storage and packing them for shipment to fulfil a customer order.

Picking retrieves the right items and quantities for an order from their storage locations; packing then combines them into shipment-ready packages with the correct documentation and labelling. Together they form the core of order fulfilment, and their accuracy determines whether customers receive exactly what they ordered, on time and undamaged.

Warehouses use methods such as single-order, batch, zone or wave picking to balance speed and accuracy across order volumes. Well-run pick and pack reduces errors, returns and re-shipments while improving fill rate. It sits downstream of put-away and feeds outbound logistics, making it a decisive link in the fulfilment chain.
